The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery is Open!
The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery
The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery is a new HCA hospital in Tampa, Florida that opened in January 2022. It is the only hospital in the world dedicated to endocrine surgery and was built specifically to house the highest-volume endocrine surgeons in the world. It is a full-service hospital designed specifically for the exemplary care of patients with parathyroid, thyroid and adrenal tumors. It is very nice and new!
Highest Volume Thyroid, Parathyroid, and Adrenal Surgery in the World
Dr Jim Norman of the Norman Parathyroid Center was instrumental in developing the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery along with HCA–the nation’s largest hospital company. A dedicated hospital to care for patients with parathyroid, thyroid and adrenal tumors was a life-long dream of Dr Norman. The hospital is the home of the Norman Parathyroid Center, the Clayman Thyroid Center, and the Carling Adrenal Center.
The building was designed specifically to care for endocrine surgery patients, including the thousands of parathyroid patients that the Norman Parathyroid Center treats every year.
A Center of Excellence
As a Center of Excellence, the staff of the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery is held to a higher standard. The world’s highest volume and most experienced surgeons oversee our thyroid and thyroid cancer surgery, scarless thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery, and adrenal surgery focus areas. Many of our surgeons held leadership positions at previous institutions (Harvard, Cleveland Clinic, MD Anderson, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, USF, and others) prior to joining our staff in Tampa.
A number of surgeons on staff are very well known nationally and internationally for thyroid, parathyroid and/or adrenal surgery, and are frequent speakers at the largest endocrine surgery meetings. Collectively, the lead surgeons on staff have published more than 1200 peer reviewed journal articles and over 60 books/book chapters. A number of novel approaches to parathyroid surgery were developed by Dr Norman—procedures that are now commonly used world-wide.
Within each endocrine surgery division are multiple surgeons trained in advanced surgical techniques specific to each endocrine gland. Last year surgeons on our staff performed more than 5,500 endocrine operations on patients from all 50 states and many foreign countries.
Getting to the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery
The hospital is located in Tampa, Florida, about 2.5 miles from the Tampa International Airport. If you are driving yourself by car, valet your car at the Front Entrance of the hospital. No tipping please.
If you stay at one of our 5 partner hotels, we will provide a Sprinter-Van Limo ride for you and your family member to the hospital in the morning, and back to the hotel after surgery. You do not need to rent a car–we will provide very nice, professional transportation!
The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery is dedicated to endocrine surgery and thus does not have any beds for virus patients. This is a surgical hospital and thus no virus folks are within our walls.
COVID-19 testing is not required at our specialty hospital.
The Norman Parathyroid Center Office is located in an office park directly next door to the hospital, at 5959 Webb Road, Tampa, FL 33615. We see folks in the office for clinic visits, but go to the hospital next door for surgery.
